About

The mission of this site is to serve as a critic at large for all things political and cultural. Think H.L. Mencken with 65% less misanthropy.

The title, and the author’s online handle, comes from a delightful line from “Code of the Woosters” by P.G. Wodehouse: “He spoke with a certain what-is-it in his voice, and I could see that, if not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled.” People in general, and Americans in particular, should not be gruntled for too long. The good can be better; the mediocre can be good; the malignantly stupid can be mocked until it slinks away in shame; and the shameless can be roundly snarked just for the sheer sport of it.

I could describe what you can expect to find here, but where’s the fun in that? Dive in.
